Traffic light sequence

When you are driving, it's important to understand what light comes next when you are approaching traffic lights.

The light sequences below do not include pelican crossing light sequence which has a flashing amber light between the red and green.

If you see a red light alone, the next light will be Red and Amber together.

You're approaching a traffic light and it is green, what light will come on next?

What lights or lights will come on after an Amber light?

I often get asked, why is there Red and Amber instead of just Amber alone? This is so that you know what to expect as you approach a set of traffic lights. Imagine if they only had amber between red and green, as you approach it and it's amber, you wouldn't know whether you going to get a green light or red light next.

But with Red and Amber added in there, you will know what light is coming next as you approach it.

It may take some time to get used to light sequences, but once you start driving, it will start to make sense very quickly.
