Why do people fail the theory test?

If you have ever taken a theory test and failed, you may be wonder why you have failed so that you can do better next time.

Lack of preparation

Issue

If you have put in lots of practice before your theory test then this won't apply to you. Believe or not, there are people who will go to the theory test without ever practicing it once. Some believe that it will be easy and others may just not have had time to practice. Whatever the reason, DO NOT DO THIS. You will waste your money and time.

Solution

Practice as much as you can before the test by using APPS and reading other materials.

Underestimating the test

Issue

Sometimes you might come across a few easy questions during practice and think that's how all questions are going to be. The theory test has easy, intermediate and difficult questions.

Solution

It's a good idea to study a broad selection of questions by doing mock tests, practice questions and other reading materials.

Not reading the questions properly

Issue

When I help people with theory practice using TikTok Live, I often see people misread questions or just not reading the whole question before answering it. If you do this on the real test, you will answer some questions incorrectly and increase the chances of failing.

Solution

To avoid this, read each question all the way through then read all the answers before choosing your answer.

Lack of understanding

Issue

You may have put in lots of practice but still not understanding what the theory questions are asking. This may be down to language issues or other issues such as learning difficulties.

Solution

Use a translation dictionary while you are revising so that you understand what the words mean. DO NOT BRING THE DICTIONARY INTO YOUR REAL TEST. Translation dictionaries and other material are not allowed in the real test but you can use them to revise.

When you book your theory test, you can also put a note to say that you may require extra support during your real test. They may offer assistance depending on your needs. There is also an option to hear the questions, in case the reading is an issue for you.
